OpenAI Introduces Read Aloud Feature for ChatGPT: Listen to AI Responses on the Go

San Francisco, CA – OpenAI has introduced a new feature for its ChatGPT platform called Read Aloud, offering users the convenience of having responses read out loud in one of five voice options. This feature is now accessible on both the web version of ChatGPT and the iOS and Android apps, catering to users who are on the go.

Read Aloud is capable of speaking 37 languages and automatically detects the language of the text being read. It is compatible with both GPT-4 and GPT-3.5, showcasing OpenAI’s advancements in multimodal capabilities. This development comes shortly after competitor Anthropic incorporated similar features into its AI models.

In September 2023, ChatGPT introduced a voice chat feature that allows users to interact with the chatbot through spoken prompts. The new Read Aloud feature takes this a step further by enabling users to have written responses read aloud, with the option to set up the chatbot to respond verbally to all prompts.

For mobile users, tapping and holding the text opens the Read Aloud player where they can control playback. The web version features a speaker icon below the text for easy access to the audio feature.

Overall, OpenAI’s integration of Read Aloud enhances the user experience by providing an audio option for interacting with ChatGPT, offering greater accessibility and convenience. The addition of voice capabilities reflects the ongoing evolution of AI technology and its potential applications in various industries.
