Parking Lot Shooting Leaves Suspect Critically Wounded

Police said one victim returned fire after a man shot at his ex-girlfriend and her friend near North Congress Avenue.

BOYNTON BEACH, FL — A Lake Worth Beach man was critically wounded and charged after police said he opened fire Wednesday evening on his ex-girlfriend and her friend in a Boynton Beach shopping plaza parking lot.

Frisner St. Cyr, 44, faces attempted murder with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Boynton Beach police said the shooting grew out of an ongoing domestic dispute and unfolded in a busy commercial area near North Congress Avenue and Quantum Boulevard. The two people police identified as victims were not physically injured.

Police said officers were called at about 6:55 p.m. Wednesday to reports of shots fired near 2244 N. Congress Ave., in a plaza near an LA Fitness gym and other businesses. Investigators said St. Cyr drove a black Cadillac into the parking lot, where his ex-girlfriend, Dyminique Shuler, worked. Police said he used the vehicle to block a Honda occupied by Shuler and her friend, Woodly Fedna. St. Cyr then got out with a gun and fired several rounds through the Honda’s windshield, according to an arrest report. Natalie Mederos, office manager at Aura Vie Med Spa, said the gunfire shook workers nearby. “Anyone could have gotten hit, so it’s scary,” Mederos said.

Investigators said Shuler and Fedna ran from the vehicle as St. Cyr chased them through the lot and continued firing. Police said Fedna, who has a concealed weapons permit, returned fire while being pursued and struck St. Cyr once in the chest. Responding officers found St. Cyr wounded and saw spent shell casings scattered through the area. Boynton Beach Fire Rescue took him to Delray Medical Center as a trauma alert. Police said he remained in critical condition but was expected to survive. Shuler and Fedna took cover inside nearby businesses until officers arrived. Police have not said how many total rounds were fired, and the full sequence of shots remains part of the investigation.

The arrest report described the shooting as the latest escalation after the end of St. Cyr’s relationship with Shuler. Shuler told investigators she had ended the relationship about three months earlier after the two had lived together. Police said she also reported a confrontation June 5 at her workplace, where St. Cyr appeared and caused a disturbance after she refused to speak with him. The report said that incident included St. Cyr grabbing and breaking Shuler’s glasses. After Wednesday’s shooting, Shuler told investigators she believed St. Cyr may have been upset because she was talking to another man. Police also said St. Cyr is a convicted felon, which bars him from possessing a firearm.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as people ran through the parking lot and nearby businesses sheltered customers and workers. Dean Sanders, a Boynton Beach resident who was at a veterinary clinic nearby, said he heard four gunshots and then saw a man near the corner of the LA Fitness. “I saw someone at the corner there of the LA Fitness sort of stumble around, and as I got a closer look at him, I noticed that he had a firearm in his hands before he collapsed to the ground,” Sanders said. Another witness told detectives the shots sounded like an exchange of gunfire between two people and said two people ran toward Quantum Boulevard.

The shooting drew a large police response and temporarily closed parts of the area while detectives searched for evidence. Officers marked shell casings, examined vehicles and spoke with witnesses at the plaza. Police said the Honda had visible damage to the driver’s side of the windshield, consistent with shots fired into the occupied vehicle. Investigators said statements from witnesses, interviews with the victims and evidence collected at the scene established probable cause for the charges. No bystanders were reported hurt, though police said the shooting happened in a public lot during evening business hours, when customers and employees were nearby.

St. Cyr was charged while hospitalized, and police said the case remains active. The charges include a firearm count tied to attempted murder and a separate count accusing him of illegally having a gun as a convicted felon. Court scheduling may depend on his medical condition and transfer from the hospital. Police had not announced any charge against Fedna, whose return fire was described by investigators as occurring while he and Shuler were being chased. Detectives are expected to continue reviewing witness accounts, physical evidence and any available surveillance video from businesses in the plaza.

The two victims were not physically injured, and St. Cyr remained hospitalized after the shooting. The next step in the case is expected to come through court proceedings once his medical condition allows. Police said the investigation was ongoing as of June 12.
