Pastor Resigns Over Alleged Sexual Abuse: Shocking Details Revealed

Dallas, Texas – A pastor at a prominent Texas megachurch has resigned after facing allegations of sexual abuse dating back to the 1980s. Robert Morris, the founder and senior pastor at Gateway Church, stepped down following accusations of inappropriate conduct with a minor.

Cindy Clemishire, who was just 12 years old when the abuse began in 1982, came forward with her story, prompting the church’s board of elders to accept Morris’s resignation. In response to the allegations, the board expressed deep sorrow and shock, stating that they were unaware of the extent of the abuse until recently. They have since hired a law firm to investigate the matter further.

Despite being relieved that Morris is no longer in a position of power at Gateway Church, Clemishire expressed disappointment that he was not terminated. She refuted the board’s claim of ignorance, stating that she had previously disclosed details of the abuse to a church official and a board member in 2005 and 2007.

Following Morris’s resignation, his name has been removed from the church’s leadership page on their website. His son James has taken over as the new senior leader of the church.

In a public statement, Morris admitted to engaging in inappropriate behavior with a young woman in the past but maintained that he had confessed, repented, and sought guidance from church elders and the woman’s father. Clemishire’s allegations first surfaced on a religious blog before breaking in a local newspaper, detailing the abuse she endured for over four years.

Gateway Church, founded by Morris in 2000, has grown significantly over the years, with multiple locations and a large congregation. Morris was also known for his involvement in an evangelical advisory group for the Trump administration, where he and other faith leaders had the opportunity to meet with the former president.

The board of elders at Gateway Church and the law firm conducting the investigation have yet to comment on the matter. Despite the controversy surrounding Morris’s resignation, the church continues to provide spiritual guidance and support to its members.
