Although authorities have not officially identified the victim, the plane that crashed in Brooklyn Park was reportedly registered to Dolan. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will be responsible for confirming the identity of the victim.
Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway announced during a news conference that the investigation into the crash will be handed over to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The NTSB will be looking into various factors that could have contributed to the crash, including the weather, pilot experience, mechanical issues, and maintenance of the aircraft.
Officials from NTSB arrived at the accident site on Sunday to document the scene of the crash. Recovery efforts for the plane are set to begin later in the afternoon. The small aircraft had departed from Florida with a planned stop in Des Moines before ultimately crashing in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
Residents of the home impacted by the crash were unharmed, according to fire officials. One person was inside the home at the time of the crash and managed to escape without injuries. The fire that broke out after the crash was promptly contained by responding emergency services.
Flight records indicate that the plane had departed from Naples Airport early in the morning, made a stop in Des Moines, and was scheduled to arrive at the Anoka County Blaine Airport. Anoka Air Traffic Control had reportedly warned the pilot twice about flying too low before the crash occurred just miles from the intended destination.
NTSB has announced that a preliminary report on the crash will be issued within the next 10-14 days. The investigation into the incident continues as authorities work to determine the cause of the tragic event.
