Police concerned missing 14-year-old girl may be the victim of trafficking

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Authorities are investigating the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl from a group outing to a downtown museum, suspecting she may be a victim of human trafficking.

Kristhal Chinchilla-Canizales was under the care of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) when she vanished on May 22 during a trip to a museum in New Orleans’ Central Business District, according to local police. The teenager reportedly separated from the group and has not been seen since.

Investigators are concerned that Chinchilla-Canizales may have fallen prey to human traffickers, although specific details leading to this suspicion have not been disclosed. The police are actively seeking any information that might help locate her.

Due to her age, limited information has been released. Chinchilla-Canizales was last seen wearing a black Harley-Davidson pullover and a blue yoga-style jumpsuit. She is described as 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 135 pounds.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact the New Orleans Police Department’s Special Investigations Division at 504-658-5267. The urgency of the situation is underscored by the potential danger she may be in.

The DCFS has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the incident. The community remains on high alert as the search for Chinchilla-Canizales continues.
