Police Respond to Downtown Indianapolis Shooting – 7 Juveniles Wounded

Indianapolis, Indiana – A shooting in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday night left at least seven children between the ages of 12 and 17 wounded. The incident occurred when officers on patrol heard gunshots near the Circle Centre Mall before rushing to the scene and finding a large group of juveniles, six of whom had gunshot wounds.

The wounded children were taken to local hospitals, with a seventh child arriving later at an area hospital; all victims are in stable condition. It remains unclear what triggered the shooting or how many individuals were involved in the incident, as no suspects have been apprehended as of yet.

According to Indianapolis Police Deputy Chief Tanya Terry, multiple firearms were believed to be used in the shooting, prompting an ongoing investigation at the scene. Terry expressed deep concern over the prevalence of gun violence involving young people and emphasized the need to address conflicts without resorting to firearms.

This marks the third consecutive weekend that Indianapolis police have responded to a mass shooting, prompting an increase in law enforcement presence downtown. In previous weekends, similar incidents resulted in casualties and injuries, highlighting the urgency for preventive measures and increased parental involvement in monitoring children’s activities during late hours.

Terry stressed the importance of parental supervision and awareness, especially during late hours when incidents like the shooting in downtown Indianapolis occurred. As investigations continue, authorities are urging the community to prioritize safety and vigilance to prevent such tragic events in the future.
