Power Outage Forces Closure of Wachusett Mountain Ski Resort – What Happened Next Will Surprise You!

Princeton, Massachusetts – Wachusett Mountain ski resort faced a setback on Sunday as a power outage forced the popular skiing destination to close for the day. The unexpected closure disrupted what was expected to be a busy second-to-last weekend of the season after smooth operations on Friday and Saturday.

Around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, officials at Wachusett Mountain made the decision to shut down for the day due to the ongoing power outage, estimating that it would take hours to restore power to the mountain. A social media post lamented, “Unfortunately, Mother Nature is not on our side once again.” This wasn’t the first time Wachusett Mountain experienced a power outage, as a similar incident in January 2023 also resulted in a day lost to skiing.

Despite the unexpected closure, the mountain still managed to receive 2 inches of snow in the last 48 hours, according to Wachusett’s snow report on Sunday. Looking ahead, Wachusett Mountain plans to reopen on Friday for the final weekend of the season. Events such as the Pondskim Party, originally scheduled for Sunday, have been rescheduled for Saturday, March 30. Additionally, the Ride for River Rail jam is set to take place on the same day.

For the final weekend of the season, Wachusett Mountain is set to operate from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Despite the temporary setback caused by the power outage, visitors can look forward to enjoying the closing events and activities planned for the last weekend at Wachusett Mountain.
