PROTESTERS BLOCK TRAFFIC IN OAKLAND AND ON GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE – LATEST UPDATES HERE!

Oakland, California – Demonstrators disrupted traffic in the Bay Area, particularly in Oakland and on the Golden Gate Bridge, in support of Palestine during a global economic blockade.

On Monday morning, protesters obstructed Northbound I-880 in Oakland at 5th Ave., placing barrels on the roadway and chaining themselves to them. Law enforcement intervened to remove the chains and restore order. Additionally, Southbound I-880 was closed when dozens of protesters occupied the highway at 7th St. in West Oakland.

The traffic congestion caused by the demonstrations resulted in prolonged delays on the affected highways, with no projected timeline for reopening. In solidarity with Palestine, activists also blocked all lanes heading South on the Golden Gate Bridge, causing extensive backups into Marin County.

As part of the A15 movement, which advocates for an arms embargo and cessation of US taxpayer funding for Israel, organizers stated that these protests were part of a global economic blockade. The Oakland Economic Blockade Against Palestinian Genocide highlighted that they were joining forces with 56 cities worldwide to raise awareness and call for action.

The protests extended beyond Oakland, with disruptions reported in various major cities across the United States, including protests at O’Hare Airport in Chicago. The widespread activism underlines the growing support for the Palestinian cause and the urgency for international intervention.

The demonstrations not only signify solidarity with Palestine but also emphasize the ongoing impact of global issues on local communities. The mobilization of individuals transcends geographical boundaries, reflecting a shared concern for human rights and justice.

The widespread disruptions caused by the protests underscore the depth of feelings regarding the situation in the Middle East and the growing momentum of the solidarity movement. It remains to be seen how authorities will respond to the escalating tensions and demands voiced by the demonstrators.
