Bethesda Softworks, based in Rockville, Maryland, is currently working to address an issue affecting PlayStation Plus members who are unable to access a free next-gen update for Fallout 4. The company’s Community Manager communicated this on the official Bethesda Discord server. Furthermore, Bethesda Game Studios shared a similar update on their Twitter page, clarifying the situation for players.
The confusion arose when gamers who owned Fallout 4 through PlayStation Plus found themselves unable to download the free next-gen update. Reports suggest that the update is only accessible to those who own the game outright, rather than through a PS Plus subscription. It remains unclear whether this restriction is intentional or a technical error, prompting inquiries from IGN to Bethesda for clarification.
Interestingly, Xbox Game Pass subscribers have access to the native Xbox Series X and S version of Fallout 4, as Bethesda, through ZeniMax, is now under the ownership of Microsoft. This disparity between platforms has sparked discussions within the gaming community.
IGN’s investigation has confirmed that PlayStation Plus subscribers can still receive a significant update for the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 4. However, accessing the native PS5 version without purchasing it separately seems to be impossible at the moment, raising frustrations among players.
In response to the backlash from PS Plus subscribers, a Bethesda representative reassured users on the company’s Discord that the PS5 upgrade should be available for those who already own Fallout 4 on their PSN account. Nevertheless, players remain disappointed by the lack of prior notification regarding this issue, especially after a recent promotional period where Fallout 4 was discounted to $5.
The next-gen update for Fallout 4 promises various enhancements including native applications for consoles, Performance mode, Quality mode settings, stability improvements, and bug fixes. Alongside these updates, Fallout 4 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms receives additional performance and stability enhancements, making the game more enjoyable for players across different systems.
