Reboot of ‘Scary Movie’ Franchise Announced by Paramount – Coming Soon in 2025!

Los Angeles, California – The classic early-aughts comedy series “Scary Movie,” known for its satirical take on popular horror films like “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” is set for a reboot. Paramount Pictures has announced a collaboration with “Fast and Furious” producer Neal H. Moritz to revive the franchise, with production scheduled to begin in the fall of 2024 and a release date targeted for 2025.

The “Scary Movie” series, which had five previous installments, lost steam after its 2013 release. However, the revival comes at a time when horror films continue to draw significant audiences at the box office, with titles like “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” “Smile,” and “M3GAN” making waves. This resurgence in horror popularity provides ample material for the “Scary Movie” team to parody in their upcoming installment.

The reboot of “Scary Movie” is part of Paramount’s partnership with Miramax, the studio behind the original film series. Miramax will finance the production, with Paramount handling distribution. Recently, Miramax appointed former MGM chief Jonathan Glickman as its new CEO, signaling a new chapter for the studio.

Neal H. Moritz, the producer behind the reboot, is also involved in other projects, such as the original event series “Knuckles” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” both under Paramount’s umbrella. With a slate of film projects in the works, including a reboot of “Face/Off,” Moritz’s involvement in the new “Scary Movie” promises an exciting revival for fans of the iconic comedy franchise.
