**RECALL ALERT: Chrysler Recalling 286,000 Vehicles Over Dangerous Airbag Issue**

AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN – Chrysler has issued a recall of approximately 286,000 vehicles due to concerns surrounding the side airbag inflators, which have the potential to rupture and cause harm to individuals, including possible fatalities. The vehicles affected by this recall include certain Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 models dating from 2018 to 2021, along with replacement parts for airbags in about 1,000 vehicles.

According to notices released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the safety concern revolves around the side curtain airbag inflators, which may rupture, leading to the possibility of sharp metal fragments striking passengers and resulting in injury or death. Additionally, the warning pertains to the replacement parts, stating that an inflation rupture when not installed in a vehicle could also pose a danger to individuals nearby.

Stellantis-owned Chrysler disclosed that specific vehicles may have been equipped with SABIC inflators that may have encountered moisture during the supplier manufacturing process. This issue could potentially lead to stress corrosion and subsequent rupture, but it is important to note that these inflators differ in propellant and design compared to previously recalled Takata airbags.

As a mitigation measure, the automaker intends to send notifications to affected vehicle owners in early May, with dealers offering free replacement of both side airbags. This proactive approach aims to eliminate any potential risks associated with the faulty airbag inflators, ensuring the safety of both drivers and passengers.

In a separate incidence, Stellantis issued a warning to 29,000 owners of 2003 Dodge Ram pickups last year after a fatal incident involving an exploding Takata airbag inflator. This precautionary measure emphasizes the need for timely repairs and maintenance to prevent any tragic outcomes linked to faulty airbag components.

The safety and well-being of consumers remain a top priority for Chrysler, as they diligently work to address and rectify any issues related to vehicle defects. By taking swift action to implement recalls and provide necessary replacements, the automaker demonstrates their commitment to upholding high safety standards in the automotive industry.
