The city of Atlanta, Georgia – Food recalls have been on the rise recently, with several popular products manufactured by a soda company being pulled off the shelves due to the failure to disclose various chemicals and preservatives, some of which pose health risks. The latest recall, classified as “voluntary” by the FDA, involves four beverages produced by the Charles Boggini Company, a well-known brand sold in restaurants nationwide. These affected drinks, including Pink Lemonade, Cola Flavoring Base, Yellow Lemonade, and Yellow Lemonade X, are typically distributed in one and five-gallon containers to food establishments.
In this case, the Pink Lemonade drink was found to contain FD&C Red No. 40 dye, a red coloring agent commonly used in foods and cosmetics but linked to colorectal cancer. Similarly, the Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X were discovered to contain FD&C Yellow No. 5, known to trigger allergic reactions in some individuals. Additionally, the Cola Flavoring Base was found to include sulfites, preservatives that can lead to respiratory issues if consumed in large quantities.
Although the recall was categorized as voluntary, concerns were raised about the company’s transparency and compliance with FDA regulations. Despite repeated attempts to contact Charles Boggini for comments, the company has yet to confirm the recall or provide any official statements on the matter.
