RECALL ALERT: Toy Company MGA Entertainment Pulls "Make it Mini" Sets Over Toxic Chemicals

Los Angeles, California – MGA Entertainment has issued a recall for their “Miniverse Make it Mini” sets due to high levels of acrylates found in the products. The U.S. Consumer Safety Commission determined that these acrylates violated the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

Customers who have purchased the affected “Make it Mini” sets are eligible for a refund or replacement, including shipping costs. These miniature toy sets range in price from $6.99 for a single item at Walgreens to $167.16 for the complete “Mini Food Cafe” set on Amazon.

The recalled products contain liquid resins that, when in their liquid state, can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation or sensitization if inhaled, touched, or ingested. The resins are composed of acrylates, specifically hydroxyethylmethacrylate “HEMA” and isobornyl acrylate “IBOA,” in levels that exceed the limits set by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

HEMA is a component commonly found in gel nail polishes that may trigger allergic reactions in some consumers. Notably, competing brands such as Light Elegance and Dazzle Dry do not contain this particular acrylate.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, once the resins have cured, they no longer pose a hazard. Customers who have purchased the affected sets are encouraged to visit the MGA Entertainment website for information on how to receive a full refund and replacement within four weeks, including shipping costs. At the time of reporting, MGA Entertainment had not responded to requests for comment.
