Recalled Vornado Steamers Sold at Walmart and Amazon Pose Severe Burn Hazard – Contact for Refund

HOUSTON, TEXAS – Vornado has issued a recall for 2 million handheld garment steamers due to a serious burn hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Thursday, including Steamfast, Vornado, and Sharper Image-branded steamers that were sold at various retailers from July 2009 through January 2024.

According to the commission, the steamers, manufactured in China, were sold at popular retailers such as Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Amazon.com. The recall comes after reports of hot water spraying or spitting from the steam nozzle, posing a serious burn hazard to consumers. Vornado has received 122 reports of such incidents, including 23 reports of burn injuries.

The recalled steamers were sold in the U.S. and also in Canada, with over 2 million units sold in the U.S. and an additional 13,000 in Canada. The recall includes three different brands of handheld garment steamers: Steamfast model numbers SF-425, SF-435, SF-440, SF-445, and SF-447; Vornado model number VS-410; and Sharper Image model number SI-428. The steamers were sold in various colors including white, black, light pink, hot pink, sage green, orange, and teal blue.

Consumers who purchased the recalled garment steamers were advised to immediately stop using them and contact Vornado for a full refund or a free replacement handheld garment steamer, depending on the model. Those affected can call Vornado toll-free at 888-240-2768 or visit Vornado online for more information.

This recall serves as a reminder for consumers to always stay informed about potential safety hazards with their purchased products, and to take immediate action if a recall is announced.
