Roommate stabbed to death in Seattle’s University District

SEATTLE, WA – Authorities in Seattle are conducting an investigation following the death of a man in his 50s in the University District early Thursday morning. The incident unfolded when officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault on the 5500 block of University Way Northeast around 1:30 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they encountered a 52-year-old man who identified the victim as his roommate. He led officers to the residence where the injured man was found.

The victim had sustained severe injuries, and officers immediately provided aid until Seattle Fire Department (SFD) personnel arrived. Tragically, the SFD pronounced the man dead at the scene.

While the SFD reported the incident as a stabbing, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) did not officially confirm the details surrounding the victim’s cause of death. As of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, SPD still had not yet determined the specific circumstances that led to the man’s demise.

Homicide detectives are actively questioning the 52-year-old roommate, who is being described as a “subject” in the investigation. He was taken into custody for questioning, but he has not been arrested for potential involvement in his roommate’s stabbing death. The SPD’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit has also responded to the scene to gather evidence as the investigation into the incident continues.
