Roster Shuffle: Giants Make Major Moves After Crushing Injury – Tyler Fitzgerald, Spencer Howard, and Trenton Brooks Join Team

San Francisco – The San Francisco Giants faced unexpected roster changes on Tuesday, with a combination of a crushing injury and the need for a bullpen game prompting significant moves.

Tyler Fitzgerald made a return to the team after a stellar performance in Triple-A, alongside minor leaguers Spencer Howard and Trenton Brooks, whose contracts were purchased by the Giants. LaMonte Wade Jr. landed on the injured list after straining his left hamstring while running the bases, leading to the removal of Drew Pomeranz and Ryan McKenna from the roster to make room for Howard and Brooks.

The roster adjustments aimed to bring balance, particularly the addition of Brooks, a 28-year-old with a .426 on-base percentage in Triple-A, acquired from the Oakland Athletics last summer. With McKenna gone, Fitzgerald rejoined the team following an impressive week in Triple-A, where he hit six home runs and earned PCL Player of the Week honors.

Howard, a former second-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, was expected to pitch multiple innings following opener Erik Miller. The 27-year-old had a 5.90 ERA in Triple-A, showcasing his potential with 57 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings.

McKenna and Pomeranz, who both departed the team, had varying impacts during their time with the Giants. McKenna made a notable contribution to a comeback win by stealing second base for Wilmer Flores, while Pomeranz did not see any game time during his second stint with the team.

The changes to the roster reflect the Giants’ adaptability and strategic planning in response to unforeseen challenges, ensuring that the team maintains its competitive edge throughout the season.
