Seductive Soulmates: New Movie ‘SOULM8TE’ Explores Unsettling Love in M3GAN Universe

Los Angeles, California – Atomic Monster and Blumhouse have announced a new movie in the M3GAN universe titled SOULM8TE. Set to be a 1990s erotic thriller with a new technological twist, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, with previews on New Year’s Day.

Director Kate Dolan, known for You Are Not My Mother, will be at the helm of the project. The screenplay was rewritten by Dolan from an original draft by Rafael Jordan, with the story conceived by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan.

In SOULM8TE, the storyline follows a man who turns to an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his wife. However, his efforts to create a sentient partner take a dangerous turn when the lovebot transforms into a deadly soulmate.

Producing the film will be James Wan and Jason Blum, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott from Wan’s Atomic Monster serving as executive producers alongside Ingrid Bisu. Alayna Glasthal will lead the project as the executive for Atomic Monster.

Following the success of M3GAN in winter 2023, which grossed over $181 million worldwide, the sequel M3GAN 2.0 is set to premiere on June 27, 2025, with Allison Williams and Violet McGraw reprising their roles.

Director Kate Dolan expressed her vision for the film, stating, “Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness. Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”

Wan also shared his excitement for the project, saying, “SOULM8TE is a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe. We’re excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view.”

Represented by various agencies, Dolan, Jordan, and Wan are all poised to deliver a captivating and thought-provoking addition to the M3GAN universe with SOULM8TE.
