Shooter opens fire from apartment rooftop

MARINA DEL REY, CA – A man was arrested in Marina Del Rey late Saturday night after an incident of “active gunfire” erupted at a local apartment complex, authorities said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) in Marina Del Rey responded to reports of gunfire from the apartment complex located in the 4100 block of Via Marina at around 10:15 p.m.

Upon their arrival, the deputies reportedly established a perimeter around the complex and called for additional resources for support. An LASD air unit noticed a suspect on the apartment rooftop, firing multiple rounds from a rifle, according to an LASD update.

Additional units, including a total of four Bearcat vehicles, mobilized an arrest team and apprehended the suspect around 1 a.m.

Social media videos recorded by bystanders show gunfire shots being fired, another showed a witness hiding behind a car for safety, and several officers with drawn firearms securing the apartment building.

Kierra Swusdee, a resident of Marina Del Rey, was about to reach home when she found her street cordoned off by a heavy police presence.

The LASD officials informed that they were still searching the area for witnesses, evidence, and potential victims related to the shooting. However, as of now, no victims have been found.

The identity of the arrested suspect has not yet been disclosed.
The LASD urges anyone with relevant information to contact the LASD’s Marina Del Rey station.
