Shooting kills 14-year-old student after high school homecoming game

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL – A 14-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a shooting incident that took place after a high school football game on Friday night, according to local law enforcement. The incident occurred around 9 p.m., as police were managing the dispersal of spectators following a homecoming football game at Hillcrest High School. Amidst the exiting crowd, shots rang out from an unidentified source, critically injuring the young boy. The circumstances that surround the devastating shooting incident remain unclear.

Mitchell was found by first responders with multiple gunshot wounds. He was then rushed to a local hospital for treatment while he was in serious condition. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Mitchell ultimately succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead around 9:40 p.m., as confirmed by the medical examiner’s office.

In the wake of the tragic incident, the Hillcrest Hawks football team expressed their sorrow over the violence that unexpectedly took place that night. Bremen High School District 228, where Mitchell was a student, confirmed the tragic news on Saturday morning. The district also announced the cancellation of the school’s homecoming dance in respect of the tragic incident.

The district also assured that support resources would be available to students on Monday to help them cope with the tragic loss of a fellow student’s life. Meanwhile, the Country Club Hills police are urging anyone who has information about the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation.
