Snow Advisory Issued for Columbus as Temperatures Plummet

Columbus, Ohio- Brace yourself for a sudden change in weather as the National Weather Service has issued a snow advisory for the Columbus area. This comes after a stretch of warm weather, with temperatures reaching into the 50s and even 60s on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The forecast for early Tuesday includes a chance of rain before transitioning to a 50-percent chance of snow by 1 a.m. The NWS has revised its earlier prediction, stating that we could accumulate less than a half-inch of snow, contrary to the initial expectation of at least an inch. According to the NWS, the rain/snow line has shifted southeast, and the warm ground temperatures could prevent snow from accumulating on roads initially.

The sudden shift in weather is attributed to a low-pressure system moving northeast across the eastern Tennessee Valley and central Appalachians before transitioning to a coast low on Tuesday. This is expected to bring some accumulating wet snow, with the highest amounts occurring over south central Ohio and northeast Kentucky.

Looking ahead, the weather service is forecasting highs in the 40s for Columbus throughout the week. Tuesday will be partly sunny with a night near 41 and lows in the mid-20s. Wednesday, Valentine’s Day, is expected to be sunny with a high near 44 but temperatures dipping into the lower 30s.

The chances for rain continue on Thursday with highs near 50, and Friday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 41. By night, there is another chance for some rain turning into snow with a low of about 28. With this sudden change in weather, it will be essential to stay updated on the latest forecasts and advisories.
