Manchester, New Hampshire – Residents in New Hampshire are bracing for a powerful storm bringing wet snow, heavy rain, and gusty winds set to impact the state on Wednesday and Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the entire state, excluding coastal areas.

The storm is expected to thicken clouds on Tuesday with highs in the 40s and light winds. By late Tuesday night, clouds will continue to move in as temperatures drop into the 30s. Anticipate a prolonged period of wet snow and a wintry mix from late Wednesday morning through Thursday with precipitation intensifying throughout the day.

Initial precipitation is forecasted to begin on Wednesday morning and persist through the evening into Thursday, affecting the evening commute. Heavier snowfall is expected Wednesday night, with the storm making its closest pass on Thursday afternoon before gradually moving away.

Snow and sleet are projected to mix initially, transitioning to snow across various regions. The eastern White Mountains, Mount Washington Valley, North Country, and Lakes Region could see 12-18 inches of snow, while the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Region may also experience significant accumulation. Lesser amounts of 6-12 inches are possible in other areas of the state, with potential for scattered power outages due to heavy, wet snow and strong winds gusting up to 35-40 mph.

Coastal areas are advised to be alert to the storm’s impact, with concerns of minor to moderate coastal flooding and beach erosion. A high tide at Hampton Beach on Thursday morning could bring strong winds and elevated seas.

Looking ahead, conditions are expected to gradually improve over the weekend following the storm’s departure. The total solar eclipse on Monday in northern New Hampshire is anticipated to be quiet, with a partial eclipse visible in the rest of the state.
