Sony Launches PS5 Beta Update with Improved DualSense Features and Share Screen Emoji Reactions

LOS ANGELES, CA – Sony has initiated testing a new PS5 beta update, introducing improvements to the speakers and microphone on the DualSense controller. This update is currently available to testers via an email invite, and it includes enhancements to the Share Screen feature.

The update also encompasses the ability to adjust the brightness of the PS5 power indicator. Additionally, the firmware for both the DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers has been updated to enhance the volume of the speakers that output in-game sounds and voice chat.

Hideaki Nishino, a senior vice president for platform experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated, “The mic input quality on these controllers has been improved, courtesy of a new AI machine learning model. Background noise from button presses and game audio are suppressed, resulting in a better voice chat experience.”

Furthermore, with the Share Screen feature on PS5, friends will now have the ability to use pointers and emoji reactions to interact with gameplay. This allows viewers to move a pointer around, send a ping, or draw a line on the shared screen to highlight certain objects or areas to guide the host player more accurately.

The last addition in this PS5 beta update is the ability to control the brightness of the PS5 power indicator, offering dim, medium, and bright (default) options to choose from, although completely disabling the power indicator is not an option.

Sony is currently making this PS5 beta available to select testers in the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, and France, with the intention of shipping beta updates to all PS5 owners within a few months.
