LOS ANGELES, California – The horror movie “M3GAN,” produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse, is set to receive a spinoff titled “SOULM8TE.” This new thriller will expand the universe of “M3GAN” and is currently in active development.
Scheduled for release on January 2, 2026, through Universal Pictures, “SOULM8TE” is already generating anticipation. The film, described as an erotic thriller, follows a man who seeks solace in an Artificially Intelligent android after the death of his wife, leading to unforeseen and dangerous consequences.
Director Kate Dolan, known for her work on the 2021 thriller “You Are Not My Mother,” is attached to the project. She has also rewritten the script, originally penned by Rafael Jordan, with the story developed by Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan.
The aim of “SOULM8TE” is to pay homage to domestic thrillers from the 1990s while providing a modern twist with its technological themes. Dolan expressed her excitement for the film’s exploration of relationships and loneliness, highlighting the enduring human truths that technology cannot erase.
Additionally, the expanding “M3GAN” universe includes the upcoming sequel “M3GAN 2.0,” set to premiere on June 27, 2025. Stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw are confirmed to reprise their roles in the sequel.
With Wan’s Atomic Monster banner overseeing the production, “SOULM8TE” promises to be a thrilling addition to the horror franchise. The project also involves executive producers Michael Clear and Judson Scott, along with Bisu and Alayna Glasthal.
