Student fatally hit by car on college campus

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A horrifying accident on Howard University’s campus claimed the life of one of its students last week. Mohammad Samura, 18, hailing from Fredericksburg, Virginia, was struck by a car driven by a faculty member, as reported by the university’s student newspaper.

The fatal incident, which took place near the junction of Fairmont and 6th streets NW on April 11, resulted in Samura’s death on the following Sunday. Following the crash, the Metropolitan Police Department revealed that a high-speed blue Audi sedan collided with a parked car before hitting Samura. Police have yet to release the name of the driver or comment on whether any charges will be filed.

The untimely death of Samura sparked a wave of mourning throughout the university community. Fellow student Folajinmi Awofeso sorrowfully remarked, “Tragedies like this don’t happen often, but when they do, it feels like everything has to stop.” Students rallied to commemorate Samura at a heartfelt on-campus memorial, where many left floral tributes to their fellow students by a flagpole.

Samura, a standout student majoring in computer information systems, earned a spot on the School of Business’ dean’s list. He also made a name for himself as a skilled member of the University’s award-winning ESports Team.

University President Ben Vinson III offered his deepest condolences to Samura’s loved ones, urging them to find solace in their cherished memories with him.

In the aftermath of this heart-wrenching incident, the university guaranteed the availability of counseling services for the grieving student body and staff.
