Brooklyn, New York – A violent altercation on a northbound A train in Brooklyn left a 36-year-old man in critical condition after he was shot with his own gun. The incident occurred at around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday when a 32-year-old man boarded the train at the Nostrand Avenue Station.
According to police reports, the situation escalated when the 36-year-old man already on the train provoked the 32-year-old man, leading to a physical confrontation. Witnesses described the 36-year-old as aggressive and provocative towards the other passenger. The altercation intensified as the 36-year-old brandished a knife or razor blade before retrieving a gun from his jacket.
As the situation escalated further, the 36-year-old began to advance towards the 32-year-old with the firearm in a threatening manner. A physical struggle ensued, resulting in the gun being taken away by the 32-year-old, who then fired shots, critically wounding the aggressor in the head.
The train eventually reached the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station, where officers rushed to the scene upon hearing the gunshots. Eyewitness videos showed subway passengers taking cover after the shooting incident. The 36-year-old was promptly taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
Authorities recovered the gun at the scene, and the investigation led to temporary delays on northbound A and C trains. The 32-year-old individual is currently in custody and undergoing questioning by the police, although no charges have been filed as of now.
