SWIMMING SENSATION: Leah Hayes Dominates Pro Swim Series in Westmont with Record-Breaking Performances

Westmont, Illinois – The 2024 Pro Swim Series in Westmont wrapped up with a thrilling final session on Saturday night. The night featured intense competition in three individual events: the women’s 1500 freestyle, 200 IM, 200 backstroke, and 100 free.

Leah Hayes emerged as the top women’s 200 IM qualifier, showcasing her dominance with a time of 2:13.15 in the prelims. Grant House led the men’s 200 IM preliminary heats with a time of 2:01.70, closely followed by Hugo Gonzalez and Kieran Smith.

One of the anticipated battles was in the women’s 200 backstroke, with Leah Shackley and Regan Smith going head-to-head. On the men’s side, training partners Destin Lasco and Ryan Murphy were set to clash in the event.

The evening concluded with the 100 freestyle, where Simone Manuel and Jack Alexy emerged as the top qualifiers for the women’s and men’s events, respectively. Caeleb Dressel aimed to secure his third title of the week after victories in the 100 fly and 50 free.

In the women’s 1500 freestyle, Paige Madden delivered an impressive performance, setting a new personal best and taking home the victory. Madden’s stellar swim showcased significant improvement since her second-place finish at the U.S. Open.

The men’s 1500 freestyle saw Michael Brinegar clinch the win, with Luke Whitlock close behind in second place. The strong showing by California’s The Swim Team and Indiana’s Fishers Area Swimming Tigers highlighted their prowess in distance events.

The women’s 200 IM final saw Torri Huske overcome top qualifier Leah Hayes with a personal best time, securing her third lifetime best of the meet. The men’s 200 IM ended in a tie between Hugo Gonzalez and Chase Kalisz, with Kieran Smith finishing third.

Regan Smith continued her impressive performance in the women’s 200 backstroke, claiming victory with a time of 2:03.99. In the men’s event, Ryan Murphy emerged victorious, showcasing his skill in the backstroke.
