Los Angeles, CA – A new prequel series to the popular “Dune” franchise, titled “Dune: Prophecy,” has made waves with the recent casting of renowned Indian actress Tabu in a recurring role. The series, originally known as “Dune: The Sisterhood,” draws inspiration from the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Set in the vast universe created by Frank Herbert and predating the events of Paul Atreides by 10,000 years, “Dune: Prophecy” explores the story of two Harkonnen sisters as they navigate challenges that imperil humanity’s future and establish the Bene Gesserit sect.
Although no premiere date has been announced for the series, Tabu is set to portray the character of Sister Francesca, a figure described as strong, intelligent, and alluring. Known for her acclaimed performances in Indian cinema, Tabu has received multiple National Film Awards and garnered praise for roles in films like “Haider” and “Andhadhun.” Her talent has also been showcased in international projects such as “Life of Pi” and the BBC miniseries “A Suitable Boy.”
In addition to Tabu, “Dune: Prophecy” boasts a stellar cast including Emily Watson, Travis Fimmel, and Olivia Williams. The series has faced numerous challenges on its journey to production, including changes in showrunners and a creative reset in 2023. Showrunner Alison Schapker leads the team, with Diane Ademu-John co-developing the series. Executive producers include Anna Foerster, Jordan Goldberg, and Mark Tobey, among others.
The “Dune” franchise has seen recent success with the release of two films, grossing over $1.1 billion collectively.
