Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” Smashes Records with Historic Number One Debut

Singapore, Singapore – Taylor Swift has once again broken records in the music industry with her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” debuting at Number One on the Billboard 200 chart. This marks Swift’s 14th album to reach the top spot, tying Jay-Z for the most Number Ones among solo artists. Only the Beatles hold the top spot with 19 Number One albums.

“The Tortured Poets Department” set a new record for the largest streaming week for an album since the Billboard 200 began tracking those numbers in December 2014. The deluxe edition of the album garnered an impressive 891.34 million on-demand official streams, surpassing previous records set by artists like Drake.

In the week ending April 25, “The Tortured Poets Department” earned 2.61 million equivalent albums in the U.S., with traditional album sales making up 1.914 million of that total. This achievement represents one of the biggest weeks for an album in terms of sales since measurements began in 2014, second only to Adele’s “25,” which earned 3.482 million units in one week.

Moreover, the album’s success extends to its traditional album sales, making it the third-biggest sales week for an album in the modern era, since sales tracking began in 1991. Swift’s decision to offer over 20 different album versions for purchase contributed to these remarkable sales figures.

With these groundbreaking statistics, “The Tortured Poets Department” solidifies its position as the top-selling album of 2024 to date and represents Swift’s most significant debut to date. BeyoncĂ©’s “Cowboy Carter” follows closely behind as the second-best selling album of the year, with 228,000 copies sold so far.
