MELBOURNE, FL – A teenager from Melbourne, Florida, is in custody following a fatal altercation with his uncle during the Labor Day weekend. The 17-year-old boy was apprehended by the Melbourne Police Department after allegedly stabbing his uncle at the Palm View Cove apartment complex on Sunday evening.
The teenager, whose identity has not been disclosed, was residing in the apartment with his mother, his uncle, and his uncle’s girlfriend. The police report indicates that the boy and his mother became involved in a heated dispute between the uncle and his girlfriend.
During the family dispute, the teenager reportedly seized a steak knife from the kitchen. The argument eventually subsided, but as the uncle was retreating to his room, the boy allegedly stabbed him in the neck.
The uncle was rushed to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. The nature of the argument that led to the tragic incident remains unclear, as the police have yet to release the details or the names of the individuals involved.
Following the incident, the teenager was transported to a juvenile detention center. He is facing charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault.
