Teen fatally hit by car while trying to catch school bus

HOUSTON, TX – The family of De’marian Justice, a 15-year-old who was fatally struck by a car while crossing FM 1960 road in Huffman on Monday, is seeking changes to street safety to protect others.

According to the family, De’marian was racing to catch his school bus when he was hit near East Lake Houston Parkway. His mother, Wynekia Justice, expressed her worry over the lack of information about the incident and her desire for answers to give her son peace.

Police authorities shared that De’marian ran into a turning lane amidst oncoming traffic, and the driver of a black BMW, although attempted to swerve, could not avoid hitting him. De’marian was transported to the hospital but did not make it.

The investigation revealed that De’marian, a Huffman Middle School student, was not utilizing a crosswalk at the time of the incident. According to police reports, the car driver remained at the scene and is not facing any charges.

Wynekia had concerns over the safety of that particular intersection, emphasizing the need for the city to step in and regulate the speed limit, especially considering the location is a bus stop for children.

In the quest for transparency regarding her son’s demise, Wynekia stressed the need to know the truth, and she expressed skepticism about the narrative that her son would recklessly step into traffic. De’marian was characterized as a loving elder brother with a knack for bringing people smiles.

Chiming into the plea for any potential witnesses, De’marian’s grandmother, Lacreta Barnes, urged anyone with further information to step forward, reinforcing the family’s need for closure.

The family has established a GoFundMe account to aid with De’marian’s funeral expenses.
