TAYLOR, MI – A 13-year-old girl has been taken into police custody after allegedly stabbing and killing her 7-year-old sister during a dispute at their home on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities were summoned around 1 p.m. to a residence near Telegraph and Chestnut for a domestic disturbance report. Upon arrival on Banner Street, they discovered the younger sister with a stab wound. She was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
The older sister was immediately taken into custody by police, shocking the local community. Many neighbors, who did not wish to provide their last names, expressed disbelief over the incident. “When my grandma told me, I was horrified because they were best friends, they would always play together,” said Matthew, an acquaintance of the sisters.
Limited information is being made available due to the sensitive nature of the crime. Neighborhood children recalled the younger girl as someone often seen riding her bike.
The 13-year-old is currently held at a juvenile detention center in Detroit. Taylor Police have not disclosed whether anyone else was present in the home at the time of the incident. More information is expected to be released on Monday as the investigation continues.
