Teen shoots and kills high school student

ROANOKE, VA – Police in Roanoke are probing a fatal shooting incident that broke out at Ferncliff Apartments in the northern part of the city early Wednesday afternoon and left a male teenager dead and another charged for the crime. According to early accounts of the incident, Roanoke cops were alerted to the fatal happenings at the 3500 block of Ferncliff Avenue NW and arrived shortly after 1 p.m. to find a critically wounded teenage boy.

The injured adolescent was immediately transferred to a nearby hospital but, regretfully, didn’t survive his injuries. By Wednesday evening, cops had made an arrest. A teenage boy was detained and booked on the charges of second-degree murder and unlawful deployment of a firearm during a felony.

Further investigations led police to suggest that the suspect and the victim knew each other. Following standard procedure, the minor suspect was sent to the Roanoke Valley Juvenile Detention Center for temporary incarceration. The police have yet to release the identities or specific ages of either participant in this tragic shooting.

Shockwaves from the lethal encounter reached Roanoke City Public Schools as it was revealed the victim was a student at William Fleming High School. The unfortunate student’s identifying information remains undisclosed.

In response to the shocking event, the school district announced it would beef up security at upcoming graduation practice and graduation ceremonies on Friday, aiming to quell any fears brought on by the tragedy.
