Teen shot dead during argument over social media

BRONX, NY – A teenage football player from the Bronx tragically lost his life due to a social media feud between his girlfriend and another female. The altercation tragically escalated to fatal violence, according to the young man’s family.

17-year-old Laquai Dash, who had been excited about an upcoming trip to Spain with his senior class, was shot three times around 4:15 p.m. last Thursday. The shooting took place a block away from his school, Legacy College High School.

A distressing video clip shows Dash collapsing on the sidewalk after being shot in his neck and back. The family attributed the violence to heated exchanges on social media and objected to the prevalent use of weapons in such disputes.

Vivian Coward, Dash’s grandmother, stated that the incident was triggered by an argument over social media, which led to a physical fight between Dash’s girlfriend and the other girl. In the process, the other girl’s boyfriend allegedly shot Dash when he intervened in the altercation.

Dash was taken to Lincoln Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The search for the shooter, who remains unidentified and on the run, continues.

Dash’s family remembered him as a dedicated student who enjoyed his friends’ company and was keen on building a career in the hospitality industry.

The neighborhood community expressed their concern about rising lack of law and order, with constant instances of fights, drug use, and vandalism in the vicinity of the local schools. They called for more police patrols to restore peace and safety.
