Texas deputy shot by robbery suspect

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A deputy constable in Texas was ambushed and shot by a robbery suspect following a police chase in Harris County on Friday, according to Mark Herman, the Harris County Constable for Precinct 4.

The deputy, identified as Deteryon Fontonet, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. “Please keep Deputy Deteryon Fontonet in your prayers,” Herman wrote on social media. “He was ambushed and shot by a robbery suspect today.”

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was later apprehended by authorities. Herman provided updates during a press conference, stating, “Our deputy is going to be OK, but he will need surgery on his face. The good lord was looking out for our deputy and for the suspect, as we would have been within our rights to use lethal force.”

Herman detailed the extent of the attack, revealing that Fontonet’s patrol car had 16 bullet holes, including shots through the window where the deputy was positioned. The ambush occurred in a residential neighborhood on the 5300 block of Slashwood Lane in Spring, Texas.

The incident began after the suspect allegedly committed armed robberies at two Academy stores in Harris County using an AR-15. Fontonet recognized the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a pursuit, which culminated in the suspect firing at the deputy and fleeing into a nearby home.

Authorities surrounded the residence, leading to the suspect’s eventual capture. Herman indicated plans to seek charges of attempted capital murder of a peace officer against the suspect. “This is just the world we live in,” he remarked.
