Three dead in fiery crash after bus collided with garbage truck

UPPER PROVIDENCE TWP., PA – A fatal road accident claimed three lives on Tuesday morning in Upper Providence Twp., Delaware County. A collision occurred between a community transit bus and a garbage truck on the southbound lanes of Route 1, Media Bypass, near the Route 252 ramp.

The fatalities were the bus driver and two passengers, as confirmed by the district attorney’s office. The catastrophic incident took place just before 8 a.m. when the bus reportedly struck the back of the garbage truck, igniting a fire. The aftermath revealed the burnt wreckage of the bus and the stopped garbage truck.

Despite the efforts of passersby to rescue the occupants by pulling them out from the rear door of the bus, the two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The bus driver, entrapped inside the vehicle, also lost his life in the accident. The garbage truck driver survived and was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.

The ill-fated bus belonged to Delgo, a non-profit organization that provides community transportation services in the region. The CEO of Delgo, Nick Miccarelli, lamented the calamity, stating that the driver had an unblemished driving record and had been employed by Delgo for the past nine months.

Miccarelli expressed his deepest sympathies for the bereaved families, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, as authorities are in the process of notifying next of kin.
