Three people dead and two more injured in near-campus shooting

CINCINNATI, OH – A tragic shooting near the University of Cincinnati campus early Monday has left three people dead and two others hospitalized. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. in the Corryville neighborhood, when officers on patrol heard gunfire and rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival at the intersection of University and Highland avenues, police discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. A fifth victim managed to transport himself to a nearby hospital. Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while another succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The remaining two victims are reported to be in stable condition at the same medical facility.

Authorities have confirmed that all the victims are male, though their ages have not yet been disclosed. The crime scene spans multiple blocks, indicating the severity and breadth of the incident. Residents in the vicinity described the sound of the gunshots as resembling fireworks or a scene from a movie, underscoring the shock and fear experienced by the community.

The shooting occurred just a short distance from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and only a few streets away from the university campus, raising concerns about safety in the area. Police have identified a person of interest who is currently being interviewed by the Criminal Investigations Section.
