Three-year-old killed, mother shot, in incident outside D.C.

LANGLEY PARK, MD – A tragic incident has taken place in a Maryland apartment complex, where a toddler lost his life to gun violence, and his mother was gravely wounded. The Prince George’s County Police Department confirmed the incident happened around the late afternoon hours on Thursday, at the Bedford Station Apartments in Langley Park.

Assistant Police Chief Vernon Hale III of Prince George’s County reported that the police were alerted to the situation when they heard gunshots in the vicinity. Upon reaching the scene, they discovered a young mother and her 3-year-old son, both victims of the shooting.

Emergency medical services quickly arrived at the scene, rushing the toddler to the Children’s National Hospital. Unfortunately, the young boy did not survive his injuries. His mother, however, was transported to a hospital in D.C. where she remains in stable condition, her injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

The police department is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice, utilizing all available resources for the investigation. Hale expressed his distress over the tragedy, stating, “That child was innocent… He didn’t deserve to lose his life because someone decided to recklessly use firearms. The effects of such actions are devastating. We hope they weren’t aiming for a child. Now a child is gone, a mother wounded! That child won’t have the chance to grow up and live his dreams.”

Hale urged the community to cooperate with the police, asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. “This isn’t about snitching, it’s about getting justice for the victims,” he added.

The department has announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
