Thunderbolt 5 Cables: New Release for $23, but What’s the Catch?

Seattle, Washington – Amazon has released a new Thunderbolt 5 cable in various lengths for $23, $27, and $33, respectively. These cables require a computer with a compatible port and accessory for use. As of now, the Razer Blade 18 laptop is one of the few devices equipped with a Thunderbolt 5 port, although it is not guaranteed on all models.

The Razer Blade 18 laptop with a Thunderbolt 5 port comes with a hefty price tag of $4,500 for the Mercury edition. With an Intel i9 processor and a mobile RTX 4090, this laptop offers high-end performance for demanding users. However, the availability of Thunderbolt 5 peripherals is limited, with companies like Belkin, J5Create, OWC, and Sabrent yet to list compatible products on their websites.

There may not be many practical uses for a Thunderbolt 5 cable at the moment unless the user has multiple Razer Blade 18 laptops. Companies like Hyper are also experiencing stock shortages for their Thunderbolt 5 docks. However, there is speculation about whether Thunderbolt Share could be used to transfer files between two identical Razer laptops at high speeds.

Cable Matters’ Thunderbolt 5 cable is manufactured by Lintes, the same company behind the prototype cable showcased at CES. This suggests a level of quality and reliability in the production of these advanced cables. As the technology evolves, more devices are likely to adopt Thunderbolt 5 ports, expanding the ecosystem of compatible accessories and peripherals.
