Bronx, NY – A tragic incident unfolded at a daycare center in the Bronx, New York City, on Friday, resulting in the death of one child and the hospitalization of three others. The children are suspected to have ingested fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, although this has not yet been officially confirmed by police.
The emergency services received a distressing 911 call around 2:45 p.m. on Friday, reporting four children at the Divino Niño Daycare center who were unresponsive. The children, a 1-year-old boy, a 7-month-old girl, and two 2-year-old boys, had suddenly collapsed, prompting the urgent call for help.
Authorities are currently investigating the possibility that the children may have consumed fentanyl, a powerful opioid that can be lethal even in small amounts. This information, reported by the New York Post, has yet to be officially confirmed by the New York Police Department.
FOX 5 New York reported that one of the hospitalized children required treatment with Narcan, a medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The identities of the children have not been released by the police, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
The 1-year-old boy was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, while the two 2-year-old boys and the 7-month-old girl are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals.
