Valley View, Texas – At least 18 people lost their lives as powerful tornadoes and severe storms swept through central parts of the United States, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. The impact was felt most heavily in northern Texas, where seven people were killed as a result of the storms. The destruction extended to other states as well, with eight fatalities reported in Arkansas, two in Oklahoma, and one in Kentucky. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, severe weather forced the evacuation of approximately 125,000 spectators at the Indianapolis 500 race, delaying the event by four hours. The storms in Texas coincided with record-breaking heat in some parts of the state, with residents facing triple-digit temperatures over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
As emergency response teams mobilized to assist those affected by the tornado, the broader community rallied together in support. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick urged the public to keep the affected families in their thoughts and prayers, acknowledging the unimaginable loss they were enduring.
