**Tragedy Strikes: Drunk Driver Crashes into Children’s Birthday Party, Siblings Killed**

Berlin Township, Michigan – Tragedy struck at a young child’s birthday party at the Swan Creek Boat Club when a suspected drunken driver crashed into the building, claiming the lives of an 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother. The incident, which occurred around 3 p.m., left several others injured, some with serious injuries, according to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.

Sheriff Goodnough described the scene as chaotic and emotional for those directly involved and witnesses to the horrific crash. Three children and six adults were rushed to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries, either by helicopter or ambulance, while others received first aid on-site and were later transported to hospitals by private vehicles.

The 66-year-old female driver, whose identity was not disclosed, was taken into custody and held at Monroe County Jail on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death. Sheriff Goodnough mentioned that she was cooperating with the authorities and could face additional charges as the investigation progresses.

Authorities were alerted that the woman may have been at a nearby tavern prior to the incident. As part of the investigation, the establishment was closed, and a search warrant was set to be executed. The tragic event has left the community reeling, as law enforcement works to piece together the details surrounding the crash and ensure justice is served for the victims and their families.
