LORANGER, La. – A devastating search for two missing children in Louisiana has come to a tragic end. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from U.S. Marshals in Mississippi regarding the arrest of Daniel Callihan in Jackson, Mississippi, in connection with a homicide. Following this development, a statewide Amber Alert was issued on Thursday.
Callihan cooperated with authorities and led them to his vehicle, where 6-year-old Jalie Brunett was discovered alive. Tragically, he also directed officers to the lifeless body of 4-year-old Erin Brunett. Jackson police officials, during a press briefing, mentioned that the surviving child was transported to a medical facility for treatment while investigations continue to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the other child’s passing.
Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade expressed deep concern about the crime scene, suggesting possible indications of human trafficking. Disturbingly, small animal cages were reportedly found at the location, prompting emotional reactions from law enforcement officials.
Sheriff Daniel Edwards revealed that Callihan was romantically involved with the girls’ mother, Callie Brunett. It is suspected that Callihan was responsible for Brunett’s death.
