Tragic Motorcycle Crash: Driver Who Killed “Everwood” Actor Gets Surprising Sentence

Dorset, Vermont – A driver involved in a tragic vehicle crash that resulted in the death of beloved actor Treat Williams while he was riding his motorcycle pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of negligent driving. Ryan Koss, 35, received a one-year deferred sentence and probation for the misdemeanor charge, along with a one-year revocation of his driver’s license. As part of his probation, he must complete a community restorative justice program.

During the sentencing hearing, Koss, who considered Williams a friend, expressed deep remorse and apologized to the actor’s friends, family, and fans for the tragic accident. The incident occurred when Koss, driving a Honda SUV, collided head-on with Williams’ motorcycle as he was turning left into a parking lot in Dorset. Williams, 71, wearing a helmet, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center but sadly could not be saved.

Koss initially pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of gross negligent operation with death resulting. However, he decided to plead guilty to the reduced charge, avoiding a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison. Williams, known for his roles in “Everwood” and “Hair,” had a nearly 50-year-long career in TV and film, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.

At the court hearing, Williams’ son Gill, wearing his father’s jacket, forgave Koss, but also expressed the magnitude of loss, stating, “I really wish you hadn’t killed my father. I really had to say that.” Williams’ daughter, Ellie, shared in a statement that she struggled with forgiveness but hoped to find peace in the future.

Recently, on the popular CBS series “Blue Bloods,” an emotional farewell was bid to Williams, who portrayed Lenny Ross. The case serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating consequences of negligent driving and the profound impact it can have on families and communities.
