Trump Allies Appeal Judge’s Decision in Georgia Election Interference Case – Will Fani Willis Stay on?

Atlanta, Georgia – Former President Donald Trump and his associates in Georgia are seeking to overturn a judge’s ruling allowing the Fulton County District Attorney to continue her prosecution in the election interference case.

In a motion filed with the Georgia Court of Appeals, Trump and eight others argue that the District Attorney should be disqualified due to an alleged improper relationship with an outside attorney appointed to lead the case. The appeal seeks to reverse a decision by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, who found an appearance of impropriety but allowed one of the prosecutors to step down.

The defendants are pushing for the appellate court to review the case before any trial, claiming that keeping the District Attorney on the case would lead to substantial errors. They argue that the judge’s failure to disqualify the entire office is a legal error that must be corrected.

Additionally, Trump and his associates cited comments made by the District Attorney in a speech at a historic Black church, suggesting that criticism of her was racially motivated. While the judge criticized the speech, he did not find enough legal precedent to disqualify her based on those remarks.

Nine of the 16 remaining defendants in the case are seeking to appeal the judge’s ruling and remove the District Attorney from the case. The group previously requested a review of the decision before the trial, which was granted by the judge.

The Georgia Court of Appeals now has 45 days to determine whether to take on the case. Meanwhile, the judge has indicated that the proceedings will continue regardless of the appeal process, emphasizing the need to address other pending motions.

The outcome of this legal battle in Georgia could have significant implications for the ongoing criminal cases involving Donald Trump and his associates.
