Washington, D.C. – A former Trump administration official, Mike Gill, succumbed to injuries sustained during a carjacking spree earlier this week, as confirmed by his wife in a statement on Saturday. Gill, who previously served at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission under former President Donald Trump, was shot during the violent carjacking spree, which also resulted in the death of another individual.
According to his wife, Kristina Gill, Mike Gill was not only a devoted husband and father, but also a dedicated member of his community, actively participating in his church, mentoring coworkers, serving on the District of Columbia Board of Elections, and coaching his daughter’s soccer team.
Gill’s professional background included serving as senior vice president of capital markets with the Housing Policy Council. His death has been described as a “huge loss” by the council. Meanwhile, the violent carjacking spree that claimed his life also resulted in the death of another individual, Alberto Vasquez Jr., 35, who was fatally shot during the ordeal.
The perpetrator, identified as 28-year-old Artell Cunningham, engaged in a series of carjackings, ultimately leading to a confrontation with law enforcement in New Carrollton, Maryland, where he was fatally shot by police. The incident unfolded over a short period, with the attacker attempting to steal multiple vehicles and later opening fire on a police cruiser.
Cunningham was also implicated in additional carjacking incidents in Prince George’s County, Maryland, according to authorities. The prompt law enforcement response brought an end to the violent rampage, ultimately resulting in the apprehension and subsequent fatal shooting of the perpetrator.
