Alexandra’s journey with NF-1 began during her elementary school years when a small bump on her neck gradually expanded into a massive tumor that now engulfs 20 percent of her body weight and nearly half her height.
Over the past two decades, Alexandra’s tumor has grown significantly, posing physical and emotional challenges for her daily life. The weight of the tumor, estimated to be around 20 pounds, has caused her to develop a custom sling to help carry the immense load. Additionally, the tumor’s size and weight have put increasing pressure on her throat, impacting her breathing and balance.
NF-1 neurofibromatosis is known for its unpredictable growth patterns and the multitude of symptoms it can present, such as an abnormally large head, short stature, heart problems, seizures, and learning disabilities.
