Twenty-seven people killed in amusement park fire

RAJKOT, INDIA – A devastating fire erupted Saturday at an amusement park in Gujarat state, claiming the lives of at least 27 individuals, including several children, according to local authorities. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning.

The blaze broke out at the park located in Rajkot, a city in western India. Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava confirmed that the fire had been brought under control and that rescue operations were ongoing. Authorities have detained the park’s owner and manager for questioning as they investigate the cause of the fire.

“So far, we have confirmed the death of 27 persons in the fire incident,” Bhargava stated, noting that the victims included four children under the age of 12. The park, typically bustling with families enjoying the summer vacation, turned into a scene of tragedy.

The amusement park is privately owned by Yuvraj Singh Solanki. Bhargava indicated that a case of negligence would be filed against Solanki. “We will be registering an offense for negligence and the deaths which have occurred. Further investigation will take place once we complete the rescue operation,” he added.

Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames and rescue those trapped inside. The incident has raised concerns about safety standards at such facilities, with many pointing to a history of lax enforcement of building laws and safety codes in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow on social media, stating he was “extremely distressed by the fire in Rajkot. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the injured.”

The tragedy underscores the urgent need for stricter safety regulations and enforcement to prevent such incidents in the future.
