Two dead bodies found in a man-made cave in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA – Two deceased individuals were discovered in an underground encampment in Los Angeles, California, early Sunday, as reported by local fire officials. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call from a residence on N. Lindley Avenue’s 8700 block around 10:38 a.m., where they found the bodies.

The firefighters also discovered an unidentified white substance within the makeshift underground dwelling, described as a man-made cavern. Subsequent analysis revealed the substance to contain traces of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid.

Battalion Chief Scott Hilton of the Los Angeles Fire Department shared that the discovery of the powder led to a thorough investigation by their hazardous material squad. After determining the presence of fentanyl, the squad took necessary measures to secure and dispose of the substance.

Specialist teams, including Hazardous Materials and Urban Search and Rescue units, were deployed to the scene to aid in the recovery of the bodies.

The deceased were identified as two adult males. Preliminary investigations by first responders found no evidence of criminal activity. Hazmat teams conducted an extensive survey of the area to ensure safety before clearing the scene.
