Two kids killed at birthday party after car crashes into boat club

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, MI – A horrifying crash took the lives of an 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother during a birthday party at the Swan Creek Boat Club in Berlin Township, Michigan. The children were victims of an alleged drunk driving incident that occurred on Saturday, according to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.

A 66-year-old woman is alleged to have crashed into the building hosting the party, resulting in the catastrophe at approximately 3 p.m. The impact of the vehicle extended roughly 25 feet inside the structure, located around 30 miles south of Detroit.

First responders provided immediate aid to around 15 victims, both adults and children. Aside from the two fatalities, nine people, encompassing six adults and three children, were rushed to nearby hospitals via helicopter or ambulance with severe, possibly life-threatening injuries. More injured party-goers reached medical facilities via private transportation.

Sheriff Goodnough described the crash scene as extremely disordered, with the participants and witnesses manifesting high emotional stress. The number of people present in the building at the time of the crash is yet to be determined.

The driver was not publicly identified. He was arrested under the suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence, resulting in death. Sheriff Goodnough anticipates the possibility of additional charges against her, contingent on the progression of the investigation. The driver is reportedly cooperating with the authorities.
