Two people found murdered in hotel housing homeless people

DENVER, CO – A man and a woman were discovered deceased on Saturday night at a former hotel, currently serving as a shelter for the homeless in Denver, according to local authorities. The bodies were found around 9:20 p.m. in a residential room at the old DoubleTree Hotel, located in Denver’s Central Park neighborhood, as reported by the Denver Police Department.

The police have yet to disclose additional details about the ongoing homicide investigation, including the cause of death. The residential status of the victims at the shelter remains uncertain. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no information about any potential suspects is available.

The 300-room building, still categorized as a hotel, was purchased by a nonprofit group providing affordable housing last November. Denver is leasing the property as part of Mayor Mike Johnston’s House1000 initiative, aiming to decrease the city’s homeless population.

Local residents, who often visit the area, expressed their concerns to local media about the recurring police visits to the shelter and questioned the city’s efforts to ensure the safety of the residents.

The mayor’s office responded to these concerns, stating that Mayor Johnston is aware of the situation and is actively collaborating with the police to gather more information. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers and are offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the double homicide case.
